The enterprise capabilities of this kind of technology are vast. Zello (formerly LoudTalks) offers both push-to-talk apps and an application programming interface (API) and software development kit (SDK) so developers can add push-to-talk functionality to their own apps. HeyTell is extremely concerned with privacy, going out of its way to give users options to opt into functions including sending location data. Like Voxer, it works on any type of data connection. It is ad-free but has a decent list of in-app purchases to change notification alert sounds, enable group messaging and add emojis to your name. It has three levels of privacy, allowing you to add or block friends from Twitter and Facebook depending on how open you want your communications to be. HeyTell is a lot like Voxer but with more customization (and it runs on Windows Phone as well as iPhone and Android). It allows you to send text messages, location messages and photos. The app runs on iPhone and Android, it’s free, and it works over any data connection, from Wi-Fi to EDGE and everything in between. “Yeah, I was just going to leave a voicemail…” Voxer functions like a walkie-talkie except that it sends messages rather than real-time dispatches. And when you’re surprised about your sleep getting better, that wakes you up, because you’re not sure it’s going to keep working. “If people have had poor sleep for years, they’re surprised when they start getting better. “We tell people to wait one or two months,” says Pelayo. “But some people take two weeks to adjust if it’s a really long trip.”įor people with a condition like DSPS, getting back on track depends on how long the pattern has been entrenched. If you’re simply adjusting after being in a different time zone, “the rule of thumb is that it usually takes one day per time zone,” Pelayo says. How long it will likely take to reset your clock depends on what’s causing you to be off. If your primary care provider does not have expertise in sleep, they can refer you to a sleep specialist who can help. Chronically not getting good sleep can do a lot of damage, and there are healthcare providers out there who can help. Sleep affects our functioning and our health now, as well as our long-term health. Avoid exposure to light before sleep. Research shows that exposure to evening light can shift your body clock to a later schedule.Even one late night can disrupt the progress you’ve made, Pelayo says. That’s what throws it off,” he says. Once you’re in a good pattern when it comes to bed and wake times, stick to it as best you can. “The idea of weekends or travel across time zones is foreign to how the brain works. The brain expects that people more or less wake up at the same time every day - and either doing so or not serves up those instructions to the brain. “The clock in your head needs instructions,” says Pelayo. Get a good alarm clock and don’t hit snooze. Do not sleep in, and get up at the same time each day. Being consistent is important in maintaining a functioning sleep schedule. Then you can save up that drive to sleep for later,” he says. “The exercise will chase away the sleepiness. Do not nap, even if you feel tired. Napping can interfere with going to sleep at night. Pelayo recommends scheduling exercise when you feel like napping. ![]() “So you could stay up later an hour at a time, but going to bed earlier is hard to do.” To get to sleep earlier, Dr. Pelayo recommends going slowly and in small increments, adjusting no more than 15 minutes earlier every two or three days. “As a general rule, it’s easier to push away sleep than to advance sleep,” says Rafael Pelayo, MD, clinical professor at the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and the Stanford University School of Medicine in California. Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central) Especially considering you get Thunderbolt 3 for advanced docking solutions. A microSD card reader like the LG gram includes would be nice, but for a laptop this thin, it's hard to complain about the selection. The left side includes Thunderbolt 3, USB-A 3.1, HDMI, and a small barrel charging port. On the right side is a USB-A 2.0 port and 3.5mm audio jack, as well as a Kensington lock slot to keep the laptop secure in a high-traffic office. Previous Swift 5 models had some funky port orientation that made connecting peripherals a bit of an issue, but the late-2019 refresh has mostly fixed the issue. If you're in a busy spot, they likely won't get loud enough to hear clearly, but at least sound remains clear and free of distortion. Like many laptops this size, audio isn't exactly impressive. Down-firing stereo speakers are positioned on the left and right sides of the laptop. You can physically left- or right-click at the very top of the touchpad and still have them register, which isn't as common as you might think. It lends itself to easy productivity, with sturdy presses and no dead spots. ![]() The Swift 5 is a smart blend of portability, battery life, and performance.Īcer made good use of space below the keyboard to include a rather sizeable Precision touchpad. The three-stage backlight (off, bright, brighter) helps with working in the dark, and the usual Fn shortcuts are present. It's maybe a bit loud, but the click is satisfying, and it has a soft feel when bottoming out. While the Swift 5 keys certainly don't have the deepest travel, I really didn't mind using it for all-day typing sessions. Laptops this thin usually have to sacrifice some keyboard travel and overall comfort to fit the chassis. The new design looks better and serves a secondary purpose. The dual hinges, made to look like a single hinge thanks to a rounded cover, sit behind the display and act as a bit of a stand to deliver a better typing angle when on a flat surface. You can no longer tilt the display back to sit flat with the rest of the chassis, but there's no longer the wide, visible chunk running across the middle of the device. The Swift 5's hinges have been tweaked to better flow with the rest of the laptop. If you're not using this laptop outside of an office or home setting, durability shouldn't really be an issue. It doesn't feel as durable as a laptop using a standard chunk of aluminum - there is some flex in the lid and the main body - but other laptops with the same construction have stood up to years of abuse. That overall weight is achieved by using a magnesium alloy for the chassis, as well as plastic bezel around the display. Coming off of using the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme for a few weeks, it's often hard to tell whether or not the Swift 5 made it into my bag. It's even more impressive considering the Swift 5 includes a touch display. If you're looking to buy the most portable 14-inch Ultrabook right now, this is it. It weighs just 2.18 pounds (0.99kg), making it 0.01 pounds (5g) lighter than even the LG gram 14Z990. The first thing you'll notice about the refreshed Swift 5 is how thin and light it is, especially for a 14-inch device. ![]() Same as above, except you have to lose the final battle against Omori.
